Eye Surgery at VRMNY

VRMNY surgeons are among the top–ranked eye surgeons in the world. Most eye surgeries are performed at the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital located at 64th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. Occasionally surgeries are performed at The Weil Cornell Medical Center or at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

If operating room–based eye surgery is required our surgical coordinator will assist you and your physician in scheduling this and planning all of the logistics. A pre–surgery general medical evaluation will be necessary to be sure your other medical conditions are stable enough to allow you to undergo surgery. Additionally, you will not be allowed to have anything to eat or drink after mid-night the night prior to your surgery.

Most eye surgeries are performed under local anesthesia. You will be given medications through an IV by your anesthesiologist during the surgery to relax you and make you sleepy. General anesthesia is rarely necessary.

All post–surgical follow–up appointments are done at the VRMNY offices.
